KUMIKO ORB
KUMIKO ORB is the culmination of Tanihata’ s mastery of Kumiko craftsmanship, pursuing the perfection of a true sphere.
We have transformed Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking art, from a flat surface into a perfect sphere.
Our vision goes beyond preserving tradition. It is about elevating its value to meet the needs of contemporary spaces and lifestyles.
Born from this vision, KUMIKO ORB represents a new form of Kumiko.

Unlocking New Possibilities for Kumiko.
Each slender piece of wood is precisely shaped along a curve and assembled at a carefully calculated angle to form a sphere.
Maintaining the continuity of the geometric pattern and the structural strength across the curved surface, while achieving a beautifully balanced, near-perfect spherical form, requires both highly precise woodworking and the delicate craftsmanship of artisans who can detect even the slightest deviation.

The Beauty of Kumiko,
Woven Through Light and Shadow.
With a light source placed inside, the Kumiko structure itself becomes a shade that gently diffuses the light.
Light filters through the delicate openings of the Asanoha,
casting beautiful shadows across floors and walls and bringing depth to the surrounding space.
By day, KUMIKO ORB is an objet d’art, showcasing the natural grain of Japanese cypress and the precision of its intricate patterns.
By night, it transforms into a lighting piece that reshapes the atmosphere through the interplay of light and shadow.
Illuminated, Kumiko reveals a new expression of its beauty.
