While the term “kumiko” is becoming more widespread, there is an increasing number of “kumiko-style” products that merely imitate the appearance, such as those made from resin materials using 3D printers or plywood carved with NC routers and laser cutters.
If the idea that beauty is all that matters makes us forget the essence, eventually only the word will remain, and the technique and philosophy will be lost.
